eLF Core Knowledge Introductory Module

All students commence their activity in this module, which is common to all the learning paths

eLF Group Fitness Instructor Course

Course Description:The eLF Group Fitness Instructor online course provides the basic knowledge, skills and competencies needed to teach aerobic workouts and muscle conditioning classes to groups of healthy adults. The course is based on the European Health and Fitness Association minimum standards for group exercise instructors developed from the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) for Fitness Professionals.
The course covers the underpinning core knowledge needed to teach a safe and effective group fitness class including:

  • Human Movement – Bones and Joints, Muscles and Muscle actions, the various body systems and Bioenergetics;
  • Fitness – components, the principles of training, muscular strength and endurance, aerobic and stretch theory, body composition, monitoring exercise intensity, progressions, etc;
  • Lifestyle Management and Modification – including basic nutrition, hydration, basic stress management techniques, adaptations, progressions, etc;
  • Health and Safety – safe and effective exercise, body awareness and exercise technique, modifications to exercise, dealing with accidents and emergencies, etc;
  • Communications – including motivational strategies, customer service, etc.

Regarding the specific knowledge, skills and competencies needed to teach group fitness aerobic and muscle conditioning classes, the course covers the use of the music, basic steps and their intensity modifications, cueing, transitions, muscle conditioning exercises, stretching and flexibility exercises, etc.
The courses include theoretical and practical homework assignments that must be submitted to and evaluated by tutors. The course ends with a theoretical and practical examination. Upon successfully completing the final examination, the students will be qualified to teach group fitness exercise at EQF Level 3 and able to join the national register of certified group fitness instructors.

 

eLF AquaFitness Instructor Course

Course Description:The eLF AquaFitness Instructor online course provides the basic knowledge, skills and competencies needed to teach aquatic fitness classes to groups of healthy adults in both shallow and deep water. The course is based on the Global minimum standards for aquafitness instructors developed from the Qualifications standards for Fitness Professionals from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc.
The course covers the underpinning core knowledge needed to teach a safe and effective fitness class including:

  • Human Movement – Bones and Joints, Muscles and Muscle actions, the various body systems and Bioenergetics;
  • Fitness – components, the principles of training, muscular strength and endurance, aerobic and stretch theory, body composition, monitoring exercise intensity, progressions, etc;
  • Lifestyle Management and Modification – including basic nutrition, hydration, basic stress management techniques, adaptations, progressions, etc;
  • Health and Safety – safe and effective exercise, body awareness and exercise technique, modifications to exercise, dealing with accidents and emergencies, etc;
  • Communications – including motivational strategies, customer service, etc.

Regarding the specific knowledge, skills and competencies needed to teach aquafitness classes to healthy adults, the course covers the characteristics of the water and the pool environment, the use of the music in the water (the varying tempos), basic steps and their intensity modifications in both shallow and deep water, choreographic techniques, cueing and transitions specific to water exercise, different types of training methodologies and their adaptations to the water, safety measures for both the client and the instructor, etc..
The courses include theoretical and practical homework assignments that must be submitted to and evaluated by tutors. The course ends with a theoretical and practical examination. Upon successfully completing the final examination, the students will be qualified to teach aquafitness classes to healthy adults in shallow and deep water at EQF Level 3 and able to join the national register of certified aquafitness instructors.

 

eLF Fitness Instructor Course

Course Description:The eLF Fitness Instructor online course provides the basic knowledge, skills and competencies needed to individually train healthy adults in a weight room working with resistance machines, free weights, bodyweight and cardiofitness machines. The course is based on the European Health and Fitness Association minimum standards for fitness instructors developed from the European Qualifications Framework for Fitness Professionals.
The course covers the underpinning core knowledge needed to teach a safe and effective fitness class including:

  • Human Movement – Bones and Joints, Muscles and Muscle actions, the various body systems and Bioenergetics;
  • Fitness – components, the principles of training, muscular strength and endurance, aerobic and stretch theory, body composition, monitoring exercise intensity, progressions, etc;
  • Lifestyle Management and Modification – including basic nutrition, hydration, basic stress management techniques, adaptations, progressions, etc;
  • Health and Safety – safe and effective exercise, body awareness and exercise technique, modifications to exercise, dealing with accidents and emergencies, etc;
  • Communications – including motivational strategies, customer service, etc.

Regarding the specific knowledge, skills and competencies needed to design and deliver individual fitness programmes to train muscular strength and endurance as well as cardiorespiratory endurance in a weightroom to healthy adults. The course covers the core knowledge needed to work in the gym environment with resistance and cardiofitness machines, how to design an individual fitness program, delivering a fitness session, gathering information on the clients, progressive exercise planning, teaching body awareness and exercise technique, etc. The course also includes instruction specific to the use of various types of resistance machines, free weights and cardio machines as well as training and spotting guidelines and training methodologies.
The course includes theoretical and practical homework assignments that must be submitted to and evaluated by tutors. The course ends with a theoretical and practical examination. Upon successfully completing the final examination, the students will be qualified to instruct individuals doing resistance training on machines and/or with free weights or body weight and cardiorespiratory resistance training on cardiofitness machines at EQF Level 3 and able to join the national register of certified fitness instructors.

 

eLF Fitness Personal Trainer Course

Course Description:The eLF Personal Trainer online course provides the basic knowledge, skills and competencies needed to evaluate and train individuals after having designed fitness programmes specific to their needs and interests. The course is based on the European Health and Fitness Association minimum standards for personal trainers developed from the European Qualifications Framework for Fitness Professionals.
In order to participate in this course the student must have successfully completed the EQF Level 3 Fitness Instructor course and have demonstrated adequate knowledge, skills and competencies at level 3 before continuing onto level 4.
Regarding the specific knowledge, skills and competencies needed to individually train healthy adults, the course covers the core knowledge needed to collect, assess and evaluate information from the client to understand his needs, beliefs, desires and abilities, both psychological and physical. On the basis of the information accumulated, the trainer will then design a goal-oriented fitness programme that will keep the client motivated to maintain adherence to the programme.
The course covers more information on communications, health promotion and other aspects of the role of the personal trainer. It also delves into further depth regarding functional anatomy, physiology (the energy systems, etc.), nutrition, the psychosocial aspects of health and fitness, training adaptations and exercise planning and builds on the information from the Level 3 Fitness Instructor course.
The Personal Trainer course includes theoretical and practical homework assignments that must be submitted to and evaluated by tutors. The course ends with a theoretical and practical examination. Upon successfully completing the final examination, the students will be qualified to collect, assess and evaluate information from the client and create, design and deliver a personalized fitness training programme for healthy adults, modifying it on the basis of the client’s progress. The qualification as Personal Trainer is at EQF Level 4 and will enable the student to join the national register of certified fitness instructors.
